Events

September 5th, 6:30 pm, Studiobühne, Berliner Festspiele, Schaperstr. 24, 10719 Berlin
At this year’s 26th International Festival of Literature Berlin (ilb), I’ll have the pleasure of presenting my graphic novel THE TIME MACHINE – based on H. G. Wells’ great classic – in a session moderated by Lars von Törne of the Berliner Tagesspiegel (published by Carlsen Comics at the beginning of September).
Lars and I will discuss my intention of the adaptation, as well as ideas and approaches behind the creative process. Here is an excerpt from the event description on the ilb website:
“What does it look like to travel through time? In his adaptation of the sci-fi classic ‘The Time Machine’ by H. G. Wells, Thilo Krapp visualizes a dystopian world of Eloi and Morlocks. Following ‘The War of the Worlds’ and ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’, the illustrator stages another vision of the future in pastel tones: ‘Although Thilo stays close to the source material, he always interprets the stories for his own adaptations in a personal way’ (COMIC).”
I’d add that other characters than the aforementioned Eloi and Morlocks come into play, too, but that’s only to let you know ;), as well as the adaption has a queer note to it.
I am really looking forward to it! Admission is € 5 with the Graphic Novel Pass. Afterwards, I will be happy to sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase on the evening of the event.

A new graphic novel concert reading coming up on the Pfälzer Comicsalon!
We developed a new show based on my graphic novel adaptation of THE TIME MACHINE (from the famous classic by H. G. Wells) out from Carlsen Comics on September 1st, and will be premiering it at the 4th Pfälzer Comicsalon in Gönnheim on July 6th! It’s kind of a prerelease-show, a few months before the actual book comes out. And we are thrilled!
In this reading performance with music, we take you – quite literally – back to the future on a journey through time: Henry is a gifted inventor. But he also feels lonely and mourns a lost love. Since he seem to cannot find happiness in the rigid England of the late 19th century and to win that lost love back, he builds a time machine that allows him to travel through time. However, this journey takes him somewhere other than he expected, and he soon finds himself in the distant future, where society has split into the gentle Eloi and the dangerous Morlocks…
As I read scenes from the graphic novel, Jörg Walter accompanies the performance with specially composed musical motifs played on a historic concert harmonium, making Henry’s journey a tangible, visceral experience.
To ensure the audience gets more than this musical reading and pre-glimpse into the book, we are bringing along large-format flyers featuring a scene from the story – exclusive preview material available initially only at the Pfälzer Comicsalon!
Don’t miss out on this special treat! We look forward to seeing you in just over one week at the 4th Pfälzer Comicsalon in Gönnheim!

April 25th, 1:30 pm, town hall Parchim (lounge area), Putlitzer Straße 56, 19370 Parchim
The next comic concert for 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (Carlsen Comics) is coming up!
On April 25th, I’ll be giving a live comic reading with music at 1:30 pm (until 2:15 pm) in the ’lounge’ area of the town hall in Parchim where on April 25th and 26th, comic book lovers will be gathering for the 2nd Parchim Book and Comic Fair!
In the reading concert we all dive into Jules Verne’s fantastic underwater worlds: While the pictures from the graphic novel roll before your eyes, I read the scenes from the comic and Jörg Walters music plays to the scenes, composed on a historical reed organ. The adventures of Captain Nemo and his passengers come to life for you!
Afterwards I give a small report about the creative process behind the adaption with insights into the work of a comic artist, if the audience is in the mood! You are welcome to ask me any questions about my work, and the book (and other books by me) can also be signed.
It’s gonna be a wonderful day at the northern coast! Let’s go baltic!
