Reading Concert: Mouse Hunt in the Big Store at the Pfälzer Comicsalon!

July 7th, 5:30 pm, Bruns-Weber Estate, Ludwigstraße 57, 67161 Gönnheim

Very happy to announce that we are back at the Pfälzer Comicsalon in Gönnheim again with a new reading concert (a reading with music) of one of my very favorite books: ÉMILE IN BERLIN – MOUSE HUNT IN THE BIG STORE! And it fits so well to this year’s motto AGAINST FORGETTING.

Berlin, in the winter of 1904: Émile and his mother Alice visit the newly opened Wertheim department store on Leipziger Platz in Berlin. But in the zoo department, the mishap happens: a little mouse escapes from a terrarium through Émile’s fault! Marie, the young sales clerk, fears she will be fired if it comes out that it happened during her watch. Émile and Marie try to catch the little runaway by chasing it through the vast and beautiful store – but how are the chances to catch a little rodent in a department store the size of an entire block?

In the reading, accompanied by live music by Jörg Walter, we draw you into the speedy and exciting history of department stores around 1900. While magnificent illustrations run before your eyes, I read the text live, and Jörg plays specially composed motifs for the mouse, Marie, Émile and the Wertheim department store itself. In a workshop report following the reading, I talk about how historical material like this can be transferred into a story and give an outline of the history of department stores and the Wertheim store in particular, specifically addressing the culture abnd history of Jewish department stores. The book is available and can be signed at the event.

An atmospheric event for young and old! We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

WAR OF THE WORLDS Reading Concert in Rostock

May 14th, 6 pm, Literaturhaus Rostock, Doberaner Straße 21, 18057 Rostock

The seaside town of Rostock – from where many ships will have sailed to London – is the venue for our next live reading concert of my graphic novel of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (based on H.G. Wells)!

At the Literaturhaus Rostock on May 14th at 6:00 PM, the musician Jörg Walter and I will be performing our musical reading of my comic based on the wonderful science fiction classic, which I first heard as a radio play at the age of 11. Jörg will sport his music on a historic concert harmonium. While the dramatic and captivating story unfolds before your eyes in colorful images and I read the texts and dialogues, Jörg Walter will improvise specially composed, mysterious, symphonic music.

It will be a feast for the eyes and ears! Don’t miss! (the reading will be in German)

20,000 Leagues under the Sea Concert Reading in Hamm

March 23rd, 6 pm, St. Bonifatius church, Alter Uentroper Weg 162a, 59071 Hamm (Westfalia)

The next LIVE reading concert of 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is coming soon! On March 23rd at 6 p.m.

Jörg Walter and I will perform our popular musical reading of my graphic novel adaption of Jules Verne’s beloved classic (Carlsen Comics) at the St. Bonifatius church Iman Hamm, Northrhine-Westfalia.

In the reading concert we all dive into Jules Verne’s fantastic underwater worlds: While the pictures from the graphic novel roll before your eyes and I read the scenes from the comic, Jörg Walter plays live music to the scenes on a historical reed organ. The adventures of Captain Nemo and his passengers come to life for you!

Afterwards I give a small report about the creative process behind the adaption with insights into the work of a comic artist. You are welcome to ask me any questions about my work, and the book can also be purchased at the book table and signed during the evening.

It’s gonna be adventurous again!
